Roundabout PlayPumps
Feel the thrill of changing the world for
families in Africa and Asia, whilst having fun with your family.
Roundabout
Playpumps provide communities with safe, clean drinking water, just by
letting children have fun! By simply playing on old-fashioned roundabout
water is pumped from a borehole to a storage tank, from which the clean
water can be used when required! Over 800 PlayPumps have so far been
installed in Africa, each one providing safe, clean water for 2,500
people, revolutionary results for such a simple concept.
We have installed models of the Roundabout
PlayPump in both our Devon and Cornwall Crealy Great Adventure Parks,
and so far our guests and Parks have installed two more Roundabout
PlayPumps in Mozambique!
Play Pumps International is a
not-for-profit organisation endorsed by the International Institute for Peace
through Tourism, IAAPA, The Clinton Foundation, First Lady Laura Bush and rap
artist Jay-Zee. The Roundabout PlayPump has been voted Best New Product at
Vision XS Conference in the UK, been recognised by the World Bank as one of the
worlds most innovative designs and plays an important part in the UN’s ‘Water
for Life’ pledge to provide access to clean water for the half of the worlds’
population that still desperately needs it.
In
2006 Crealy became the first attraction in the UK to install a Playpump
and has since raised enough money to build two of the 1200 Playpumps
built across sub-Saharan Africa. Visitors to Crealy can play on the
Roundabout, with a play system of water channels and troughs designed by
Surrey based Sun Safe Play Ltd,
watch a mini movie explaining how the Roundabout PlayPumps work in
Africa and learn about the installation of further Roundabout PlayPumps
across the developing world.
Angela Wright, MBE, Managing Director of
Crealy discovered Roundabout PlayPumps in 2003 and immediately
recognised the fund raising potential of linking the organisation with
top visitor attractions around the world. With her involvement in both
the British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and
Attractions, and the International Association
of Amusement Parks and Attractions, Angela is bringing Roundabout
PlayPumps to the attention of large theme parks, zoos and attractions
worldwide. A number of major attractions in the UK, USA, Australia and
South Africa are interested in signing up to the project.
“Everyone at Crealy is very excited to be part of this
world-changing project for children. We provide magic to children every
day, and now our attractions are spreading that magic to other children
worldwide who are, in turn, sharin g this within their communities. We
believe in enabling children to realise their own capabilities through
adventurous play, how exciting to do that worldwide!”
Crealy
also supports One Water, the official water of Live8 and Make Poverty
History, who use all the profits from sales of bottled water to fund
Roundabout PlayPumps.
Duncan Goose, the founder of One Water, said “We are absolutely delighted to be working closely with Angela
Wright and Crealy to build awareness of the Roundabout PlayPumps in
Africa and to explain to people that they can change lives simply by
buying One Water - which donates all it's profits to the Roundabout
PlayPumps project”
