Devon's Crealy Great Adventure Park
Roundabout PlayPump Launch

A unique children’s attraction opened at Crealy Great Adventure Parks in April 2006, as part of a global project to unite children across the world. The attraction is a life-size working replica of the Roundabout PlayPumps installed across Africa. The Roundabout is the first of it’s kind in the UK and is set within Crealy’s new World Play Zones.Roundabout PlayPump in Africa

Over 700 Roundabout PlayPumps have already been installed, providing clean, free drinking water for up to 2,500 people per Roundabout. Children play on the Roundabout, which pumps water from an underground borehole into a sealed storage tank, ready to be drawn when needed.

Visitors to Crealy can play on the Roundabout, with thewater play system of channels and troughs, designed by Surrey based, Sun Safe Play Ltd, watch a mini movie explaining how the Roundabout PlayPumps work in Africa and learn about the installation of further Roundabout PlayPumps across the developing world.

Rounabout PlayPumps in action
Angela Wright, MBE, Managing Director of Crealy discovered Roundabout PlayPumps in 2003 and immediately recognised the fund raising potential of linking the organisation with the top visitor attractions around the world. As Managing Director of Crealy, with involvement in both the British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions, and the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, Angela is bringing Roundabout PlayPumps to the attention of large theme parks, zoos and attractions worldwide. A number of major attractions in the UK, USA, Australia and South Africa are interested in signing up to the project.

Angela Wright, MBE, Managing Director of Crealy said,

Everyone at Crealy is very excited to be part of this world-changing project for children. As Attractions, weprovide magic every day now children in our Attractions are spreading that magic to other children worldwide who are, in turn, sharing that magic with their communities. We believe in enabling children to realise their own capabilities through adventurous play. How exciting to do that worldwide!”

Over half of the world’s population do not have access to clean water. The United Nations have pledged to change this within the next 10 years during the Water for Life’ decade.

One Water’, the official water of Live8 and Make Poverty History, supports Roundabout PlayPumps as part of its fund raising for water charities, specialising in water and sanitation projects in the developing world.

Duncan Goose, the founder of One Water, said

We are absolutely delighted to be working closely with Angela Wright and Crealy to build awareness of the Roundabout PlayPumps in Africa and to explain to people that they can change lives simply by buying One Water - which donates all it's profits to the Roundabout PlayPumps project'"

In 2000, the PlayPump initiative was recognised by the World Bank as one of the world’s most innovative designs”.

HOW TO DONATE

We hope that you are inspired to help bythis webpage to donate and help Roundabout PlayPumps continue their excellent work. Here's how you can help.

You can give a Roundabout PlayPump for £3450 excluding installation and transport by linking here to the Unicef UK Gift Catalogue or donate at the Round the World PlayZones in Cornwall's Crealy and Devon's Crealy, where we're raising the £5,000 needed to fully install a PlayPump for children in Mozambique.

You can also make a smaller donation directly to Roundabout PlayPumps because £5 provides water for one person for 10 years, £20 provides water for a family for 10 years, £55 provides enough water for a school & £130 provides enough water for a small community.

NOMINATE PLAYPUMPS INTERNATIONAL

If like us you think this is a great idea, please show your support for PlayPumps by nominating it for The Motley Fool 10th annual Foolanthropy campaign. Here is what it is about:

Foolanthropy involves the five million members of the Motley Fool community (affectionately known as Fools) by creating a platform in which philanthropic investors can learn about and support some of the most effective nonprofit organizations in the world.

For an organization to receive funding, it must first be nominated by a member on Foolanthropy's free online message board. From this pool, on November 20 five finalists are selected and featured on the Motley Fool website. Members then have a month to contribute to their favorite organization, and the company provides a $10,000 bonus on January 7, 2007 to the organization receiving the most support.

At the same time, The Motley Fool runs its *My 2 Cents* campaign in which every single post to any of its boards in the month of December generates two cents for the Foolanthropy pot. At the end of the month, the sum is equally divided amongst the remaining four finalists. In 2005, Foolanthropy channeled almost $300,000 to five worthy organizations.

You can help by posting on their discussion board a message about PlayPumps and why you think it rocks!

All you have to do is go to:
http://www.fool.com/foolanthropy/2006/foolan06b.htm?
and click on their discussion board. By becoming a free member (it takes less than two minutes) you can then create a post about why YOU think that PlayPumps International is great! Since the decision makers want to ascertain the public's opinion of each charity, please write a little personal blurb about why you chose PlayPumps. You can refer to the original posting which is number 4855.

Thank you for your support!
